The national park has been closed since before my arrival in Ecuador due to volcanic activity of the volcano Cotopaxi.
Yeah, it is fun living in the fear of a volcanic eruption! We have an emergency call list in case of an eruption, I have been told to always have a dust mask in my backpack, we have had the police visiting my project and we have tried evacuating the horses from Fundacíon AM-EN.
But since the activity of Cotopaxi has fallen parts of the national park has been opened up again. We were still given dust masks before entering the national park and a set of guidelines of how to behave in the park! And parts of the park is still closed off!
But the park is really beautiful. We took a bus to the entrance to the national park and from there we paid a driver 15 $ each to take us on a tour of the national park, where we visited a museum and did some hiking before returning.

Den 26. december fik jeg muligheden for at gøre noget, som jeg ikke havde troet ville være muligt under mit ophold i Ecuador: Jeg besøgte Cotopaxi nationalpark.
Nationalparken har ellers været lukket siden før min ankomst til Ecuador grundet vulkansk aktivitet fra vulkanen Cotopaxi.
Og ja, vi har det sjovt med at leve i frygten for et vulkanudbrud hernede. Vi har en telefonliste i tilfælde af et vulkanudbrud, jeg er blevet bedt om altid at have en støvmaske i min taske, politiet har besøgt Fundacíon AM-EN indtil flere gange og vi har prøvet at evakuere hestene fra Fundacíon AM-EN.
Men eftersom den vulkanske aktivitet er faldet igen, er dele af Cotopaxi nationalpark midlertidigt åbnet, selvom vi stadigvæk blev udstyret med støvmasker inden vi kom ind i parken. Og dele af nationalparken er stadigvæk lukket.
Nationalparken er virkelig smuk. Vi tog bussen til nationalparken, hvor vi hver især betalte 15 $ for at en chauffør tog os rundt i nationalparken. Under besøget i parken besøgte vi et museum og vandrede også lidt omkring i parken.
